Masaryk University is the second-largest public university in the Czech Republic and the leading higher education institution in Moravia. It is recognized as one of the most important teaching and research institutions in the Czech Republic and a highly-regarded Central European university.
This project is carried out at the Faculty of Science in the Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment (RECETOX). RECETOX has over 30 years of scientific and educational tradition and it is nowadays one of the biggest (53 researchers, 87 PhD students, 20 other staff) and the most successful department. RECETOX is internationally recognized in the research of chemical stressors risks to ecosystems and human health. The expertise of RECETOX historically focused on persistent organic pollutants (POPs; the Centre serves and national and regional coordinator for the implementation of the Stockholm Convention) but it actively extends also towards emerging and novel classes of environmental contaminants and bioactive natural compounds. The current capacities cover broad range of advanced sampling tools, high end chemical instrumentation as well as top laboratories for biological and toxicological research and education. |
Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) is an international university with a diversity that is tailor-made for meeting a number of the major global challenges. NMBU's research is enabling people all over the world to tackle the big, global challenges regarding the environment, sustainable development, how to improve human and animal health, renewable energy sources, food production, and land- and resource management.
The Department of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Food Science (IKBM), at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Biosciences at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) was established in October 2003, and is an amalgamation of the former Department of Food Science, the Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology and the Department of Mathematical Sciences. IKBM represents a broad spectrum of scientific fields encompassing basic natural sciences as well as the application of these towards food, biotechnology and environmental issues. IKBM focuses on studies, research, dissemination of research and consulting within the basic natural sciences and the use of this knowledge in relation to food, biotechnology and the environment. All of these are main focus areas for the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). IKBM aims to strengthen its position and has several collaborations, networks and research projects both international as well as within NMBU/Campus As and in Norway. The goal is to further develop these collaborations within the research areas including chemistry and biochemistry, microbiology and microbial genetics, bioinformatics and analysis, methodology within food technology and food quality as well as aging and nutritional physiology in animal models. |
